About

I grew up in country NSW in the picturesque New England region on a sheep and cattle property

The best childhood memories I have are of time I spent with my brother, especially yabbying and catching guppies in the creek, and target practise on the boundary fence – home/dinner time was announced when the cow bell was rung from the back door.

I have vivid photographic images etched in my memory – including living in a rambling homestead with outbuildings (the blacksmiths shop where the horses were shod; the butcher’s shop (where the workmen would hang and cut up the sheep); the dairy (where our daily milk would be placed after the workmen milked the Jersey cows each morning); the huge shearing shed and shearers’ huts… pulleys, wool press, hayshed, pigs, chickens, working dogs (kelpies and cattle dogs), garden dogs (corgis) and cats (moggies) , Ozzy (with his signature apron) who worked at McRae’s who would always carry my mother’s groceries to the car…and boarding school (wandering through the art room viewing student’s art and wishing I could paint, draw and create unique art; and the most wonderful English teacher Mr Rose who taught me how to love and appreciate Shakespeare and Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales).

I have been writing for a number of years – sometimes in my head – sometimes on paper – and sometimes on the computer screen

Whilst living as an expat in Beijing for 15 months I ticked off two items on my bucket list – painting (Chinese watercolours) a natural progression from learning Chinese calligraphy, and writing (writing the content for the website and monthly newsletter for ANZA Beijing for the expat community).
After returning to Australia at the end of 2010 I undertook various forms of art full time (drawing, painting, printmaking – etching in particular, and book binding). I studied a Diploma of Interior Design in 2014. I joined two book clubs, one with a bookshop, the other with friends – the seed for writing a book was sewn.

I am an accidental artist and author

I write blogs (pipreid@medium) via facebook (pip.reid) and twitter (@pipreid01), and am writing further childrens’ illustrated books, short stories and a novel. I continue to paint and draw, delving deeper into the abstract world.

I am also a member of the Schnauzer SEQ Facebook Group who support Schnauzer Rescue.
